Buttock/glute or hip pain might start after a long walk or run but there is often no obvious cause.  It can be very uncomfortable and limit your activity. Sometimes the problem is a result of lumbar instability and maybe related to sciatic nerve irritation. I will do a full assessment and treatment which might include dry needling, assisted stretching, trigger point release and myofascial release. Trigger point development in the glutes is very often the cause of the pain, but it also can be an indicator of weaknesses that need to be addressed, so I’ll take a look at the muscles that might require strengthening and I’ll provide a strengthening programme if necessary.

Hip pain is often age related and the cause of pain is osteopathic changes to the joint, possibly warranting a hip replacement. There is no charge if I find that the hip is arthritic and requires a surgical intervention.

There are multiple deep muscles controlling the hip and associated leg movements and these all work collectively to provide strength and stability. They work as part of a broader team of muscles, including those in the feet and core. If any of the companion muscles isn’t working efficiently, problems and ultimately pain might ensue.
